• Wroxham Bridge Works Update

Following concerns being raised by several residents, our Parish Clerk contacted Norfolk County Council (NCC) today to request an update on the works taking place on Wroxham Bridge. NCC has advised that the majority of the works to the bridge are being done out of sight (strengthening the lower section of highway wall in the narrow passageway next to the Liberty restaurant), which is why the works taking place haven’t always been visible.

NCC’s team has removed the top section of damaged brickwork ready for the bricklayers, who are scheduled to start rebuilding the wall on Wednesday. The old stone copings are being cleaned and trimmed today and tomorrow, ready for reinstallation at the end of the week, while steel deck plate and carriageway repairs are scheduled for next Monday. The good news is that these works are currently ahead of schedule and so, providing the team don’t encounter any unexpected problems, they are pushing to finish the works ahead of the original estimated completion date.

  • Think Before You Park

Hoveton Parish Council recently reported on concerns raised by local residents about ongoing incidents of inconsiderate (often illegal) parking taking place on Horning Road, opposite St. John’s Community Primary School. It has been reported that at school drop-off and pick-up times, drivers are routinely ignoring the double yellow lines and yellow zig-zag lines outside the school in order to park on grass verges and up on the pavement along the Three Rivers Way, causing damage to the verges, obstructing the Three Rivers Way, and creating a road safety hazard outside the school. Meanwhile, concerns have also been raised about parking obstructions and inconsiderate parking on residential roads such as Waveney Drive and Meadow Drive, both in part caused by parking for the school.

After seeking advice from Norfolk County Council and Norfolk Police, HPC has reported these problems to the relevant parties. Offences of parking against a restriction (such as double yellow lines) are the responsibility of County Council Enforcement Officers, who have been informed of the situation on Horning Road. Your Parish Council will seek further advice from the County Council regarding possible solutions to the problem of inconsiderate parking on residential roads, and it has arranged to work closely with the headteacher of St. John’s School in terms of contacting parents and carers to encourage more responsible parking in the future.

  • Wroxham Bridge Reminder

Just a reminder that work is now underway on Wroxham Bridge to repair a brickwork wall which has been damaged and to carry out maintenance on a steel deck plate. The work is expected to take three weeks to complete and one lane of the A1151 Norwich Road over the bridge will remain closed until the work is complete. Temporary traffic lights are now in place, so please expect delays on this route. For further information, please read Wroxham Bridge Repairs.

  • Please Park Responsibly

Local residents have recently raised concerns with Hoveton Parish Council over ongoing incidents of inconsiderate (often illegal) parking taking place on Horning Road, opposite St. John’s Community Primary School. It has been reported that at school drop-off and pick-up times, drivers are routinely ignoring the double yellow lines and yellow zig-zag lines outside the school in order to park on grass verges and on the pavement between posts and trees along the Three Rivers Way.

This inconsiderate parking is not only causing damage to the grass verges, but it is obstructing the Three Rivers Way for cyclists and pedestrians who wish to use it and is creating a hazard outside the school in terms of road safety. Your Parish Council has reported this problem to the relevant parties but, in the meantime, it would like to ask those responsible to please park more responsibly in the future or, if possible, to travel to the school in another way (for instance, by foot, bike, public transport or car sharing).

  • Wroxham Bridge Repairs

Norfolk County Council has advised that work is set to start on Sunday 17th March to repair a brickwork wall which has been damaged and to carry out maintenance on a steel deck plate on Wroxham Bridge. The work is expected to take three weeks to complete. To allow these vital repairs to be carried out safely it will be necessary to close one lane of the A1151 Norwich Road over the bridge until work is complete. Temporary traffic lights will be used to control traffic and these will be manually controlled during peak times to allow traffic to flow as smoothly as possible.

A low brickwork wall on the north west approach to Wroxham Bridge has been struck several times by vehicles and the resulting damage has prompted the need for repair work to ensure public safety is not compromised. The wall will be repaired and strengthened and also raised in height to increase the protection provided. Other minor adjustments will also be made to the approach fencing. Urgent repairs are also needed on a metal deck plate on the main river bridge which has cracked. The plate will be re-welded at the same time as the wall repairs.

To minimise disruption the work has been programmed before the busy Easter period. The wall and bridge work will be carried out at the same time using additional labour, extended working hours and weekend working, all of which have been planned to make sure the scheme is completed as swiftly as possible.
