• Parish Elections Reminder

Just a reminder that Parish Council elections are due to take place on Thursday 2nd May 2019, alongside elections for North Norfolk District Council. If you are considering standing at these elections, it’s not too late to do so! Nomination forms must be hand-delivered to North Norfolk District Council between the hours of 10am and 4pm on any working day within the nomination period (Wednesday 27th March to Wednesday 3rd April 2019).

If you care about where you live and are passionate about your community, why not consider standing as a candidate in the Parish Council elections? If you’re not sure whether this opportunity is right for you, or if you’d like more information about being a parish councillor and what this involves, you are welcome to get in touch with Lisa, the Parish Clerk (07572 349600 or clerk@hoveton-pc.org.uk) to discuss this further, or with any member of the Parish Council. Otherwise, for more information, please visit our Make A Change, Become A Parish Councillor page.

  • Wroxham Bridge Reminder

Just a reminder that work is now underway on Wroxham Bridge to repair a brickwork wall which has been damaged and to carry out maintenance on a steel deck plate. The work is expected to take three weeks to complete and one lane of the A1151 Norwich Road over the bridge will remain closed until the work is complete. Temporary traffic lights are now in place, so please expect delays on this route. For further information, please read Wroxham Bridge Repairs.

  • A Call For Help

Hoveton Parish Council has recently been contacted by two charities in need of volunteers and support from the local community. Perhaps you would like to get involved in their work? The British Red Cross helps people in crisis, here in the UK as well as abroad. They provide services such as Event First Aid, Emergency Planning and Response, Care In The Home, Refugee Services, and International Disaster Relief. They are currently asking for help with bucket collections in May but are also looking for ‘ambassadors’ to organise collection cans, run fundraising events, etc. If you think you can help, contact Senior Community Fundraiser Paul Fleet on 01603 253 412 (email pfleet@redcross.org.uk).

Norfolk Accident Rescue Service (NARS) provides emergency medical care to people who have suffered traumatic or life-threatening injuries or serious medical conditions, such as cardiac arrest. Last year, NARS medics responded to over 500 calls, and NARS is currently running an ambitious training programme which will eventually result in an additional fifteen critical care paramedics to help people in Norfolk. NARS receives no funding from the NHS or the Ambulance Trust so is looking for local volunteers to organise fundraising events or to get involved with its work. No specialist knowledge is needed, just plenty of enthusiasm. For more information, please visit www.nars.org.uk or call 07723 647 566.

  • Get Your Hands Dirty

Just a reminder that your Parish Council will soon be taking direct responsibility for arranging the planting/maintenance of public flower beds throughout our village. This exciting community project is now underway, led by an enthusiastic and hardworking volunteer, but more help is needed to ensure Hoveton is able to fully bloom this year.

There are plenty of opportunities to get involved in this project, whether you’d like to join a working party in the spring to help plant the flower beds, regularly tend to a particular flower bed, or even if you’d just like to share your gardening skills and knowledge with others. Please contact Cllr Peter Howe (01603 783096 or phowe@hoveton-pc.org.uk) if you can help in any way.

  • Wroxham Bridge Repairs

Norfolk County Council has advised that work is set to start on Sunday 17th March to repair a brickwork wall which has been damaged and to carry out maintenance on a steel deck plate on Wroxham Bridge. The work is expected to take three weeks to complete. To allow these vital repairs to be carried out safely it will be necessary to close one lane of the A1151 Norwich Road over the bridge until work is complete. Temporary traffic lights will be used to control traffic and these will be manually controlled during peak times to allow traffic to flow as smoothly as possible.

A low brickwork wall on the north west approach to Wroxham Bridge has been struck several times by vehicles and the resulting damage has prompted the need for repair work to ensure public safety is not compromised. The wall will be repaired and strengthened and also raised in height to increase the protection provided. Other minor adjustments will also be made to the approach fencing. Urgent repairs are also needed on a metal deck plate on the main river bridge which has cracked. The plate will be re-welded at the same time as the wall repairs.

To minimise disruption the work has been programmed before the busy Easter period. The wall and bridge work will be carried out at the same time using additional labour, extended working hours and weekend working, all of which have been planned to make sure the scheme is completed as swiftly as possible.
