• NCC Budget Consultation

Norfolk County Council’s 2019/20 budget consultation is currently inviting members of the public to have their say on some of the latest budget and council tax proposals made by Norfolk County Council (NCC). With the amount of money NCC receives from central government rapidly declining, these proposals include a plan to save £79 million over the next three years, while NCC is also identifying ways of bridging a remaining funding gap of £45.98 million.

Though a council tax increase has been proposed, Hoveton Parish Council has been advised that this won’t be enough to balance NCC’s budget, meaning NCC must continue to make difficult decisions over how funds are spent. The consultation closes on 23rd December 2018 and local residents can have their say at www.norfolk.gov.uk/budget. Copies of the consultation documents can be requested from haveyoursay@norfolk.gov.uk or 0344 800 8020.

  • Hoveton Police Update

Local residents will be pleased to hear that speeding on Stalham Road has been identified as a new SNAP (Safer Neighbourhood Action Panel) priority. This means that enforcement action will likely take place on Stalham Road over the next six weeks. Residents will also be pleased to hear that data gathered by Hoveton’s SAM2 is to be used in the prosecution of a speeding motorist.

Thankfully, Hoveton remains ‘burglary free’ at the moment, though historically in the run-up to Christmas there is a rise in dwelling burglary offences. With this in mind, residents are advised to report anything suspicious to Norfolk Police and to think about prevention (leaving lights on, leaving a car on the drive when out if possible, making sure doors and windows are locked). If you’re going away for Christmas, tell a neighbour and ask them to put a car on your driveway if they can.

Unfortunately, however, fly-tipping appears to be on the up. If you see fly-tipping taking place, this may be reported to Norfolk Police or to North Norfolk District Council. Fraud offences are also sadly becoming more frequent. Please contact Norfolk Constabulary on the non-emergency number 101 (or 999 if a crime is in progress) if you are concerned you may have been targeted in a fraud offence, or call Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040.

Finally, a date for your diaries. Hoveton’s Beat Manager, PC Tom Gibbs, will be opening Hoveton Police Station to the public on Friday 18th January 2019 between 3pm and 4pm for a community engagement surgery. This is a wonderful opportunity for local residents to speak to PC Gibbs directly about any local issues or concerns they might have. He will have the kettle on!

  • Youth Club Proposal

You may be aware that, sadly, Hoveton Bowls Club had to close earlier this year. Following feedback received as part of its Parish Plan consultation, Hoveton Parish Council and the Hoveton Village Hall Management Committee are now exploring the possibility of using the land and buildings formerly occupied by the Bowls Club to build a facility that will give young people in our village somewhere safe and dry to hang out with friends. For a project like this one to succeed, however, we will need the support of the local community. Do you have any ideas or experience that could help us get this project up and running? If so, then we’d love to hear from you!

  • A True Community Effort

Hoveton’s Granary Staithe is looking festive again now that our community Christmas tree is in place. Despite some rather uncharitable social media comments and press coverage in recent weeks, Hoveton Parish Council hopes that most local residents and visitors to our village are enjoying this addition to the Staithe. Purchased from St John’s Community Primary School in aid of the school’s fundraising campaign, kindly sponsored by two local businesses (Stobart & Hurrell estate agents and the Hotel Wroxham), and put up with the help of members of the Bure Valley Rotary Club, this lovely little tree is a true community effort. A project like this, while small, requires a big effort from all of those involved, so a huge thank you to everyone who helped put a little extra sparkle into Hoveton’s Christmas!

  • Help Shape The Future Of Hoveton

Hoveton Parish Council is keen to consult with local residents in order to gather views on the positive and negative aspects of life in Hoveton, and to determine how and where changes can be made to improve quality of life for all. In the near future, your Council will be updating its five-year Parish Plan, which outlines the Council’s vision and key priorities for Hoveton.

However, the Parish Plan is also designed to reflect the thoughts, feelings and ideas of local residents. Therefore, your help is needed if the Parish Plan is to be a true reflection of life in Hoveton; past, present and future. What would you like to see included in the new Parish Plan? What do you think your Parish Council’s priorities should be in the future? What is your vision for Hoveton? This is a wonderful opportunity to contribute your views and suggestions, so please do get in touch with us. Please contact Cllr Martin Richmond with your feedback (01603 781 573 or email mrichmond@hoveton-pc.org.uk) or leave a comment below.
