  • Please Park Responsibly

Local residents have recently raised concerns with Hoveton Parish Council over ongoing incidents of inconsiderate (often illegal) parking taking place on Horning Road, opposite St. John’s Community Primary School. It has been reported that at school drop-off and pick-up times, drivers are routinely ignoring the double yellow lines and yellow zig-zag lines outside the school in order to park on grass verges and on the pavement between posts and trees along the Three Rivers Way.

This inconsiderate parking is not only causing damage to the grass verges, but it is obstructing the Three Rivers Way for cyclists and pedestrians who wish to use it and is creating a hazard outside the school in terms of road safety. Your Parish Council has reported this problem to the relevant parties but, in the meantime, it would like to ask those responsible to please park more responsibly in the future or, if possible, to travel to the school in another way (for instance, by foot, bike, public transport or car sharing).

  • Children’s Playground Update

As residents may be aware, the children’s playground at Hoveton Village Hall is currently closed. This closure is due to essential repairs being needed in order for the playground equipment to meet current health and safety requirements.

Toward the end of last year, a fundraising page was set up by a local resident to help pay for these repairs. Unfortunately, the money raised has only very recently been passed on to the Village Hall charity. Using these donated funds, the charity will now proceed with organising repairs to the play area. It is hoped these repairs will be carried out by the end of March, subject to the availability of a welder to carry out the work.

In the meantime, Hoveton Village Hall is in need of volunteers to join a working party to assist with jobs such as painting and general maintenance of the Hall and its grounds. Can you help? If so, please contact Cllr Jilly Gourlay on twinklingjilly@gmail.com or 07818 214277.

  • Planning Application PF/19/0295

Hoveton Parish Council has been invited to comment on the following local planning application:

    Application PF/19/0295
Proposal: Three children’s amusement rides including small roller coaster.
Address: Wroxham Barns, Tunstead Road, Hoveton
Further Details: North Norfolk District Council
    Consultation Deadline: 25th March 2019

As there is no scheduled Parish Council meeting before the end of the consultation period, this application will be considered by Hoveton Parish Council in accordance with ‘Option 2’ of its Planning Protocol.

  • Get Your Hands Dirty

Just a reminder that your Parish Council will soon be taking direct responsibility for arranging the planting/maintenance of public flower beds throughout our village. This exciting community project is now underway, led by an enthusiastic and hardworking volunteer, but more help is needed to ensure Hoveton is able to fully bloom this year.

There are plenty of opportunities to get involved in this project, whether you’d like to join a working party in the spring to help plant the flower beds, regularly tend to a particular flower bed, or even if you’d just like to share your gardening skills and knowledge with others. Please contact Cllr Peter Howe (01603 783096 or phowe@hoveton-pc.org.uk) if you can help in any way.
