• Please Return Your Trolleys

A local resident recently raised concerns with Hoveton Parish Council regarding the number of shopping trolleys being abandoned around our village, particularly trolleys being left in residential areas some distance from the village centre. Your Parish Council has raised this matter with Roys and put forward several ideas that may encourage shoppers to return their trolleys (for instance, a £1 deposit for the use of a trolley) but unfortunately the introduction of such measures would prove expensive and would offer no guarantee that trolleys would be returned. Though the trolleys are all safely locked away at night, it seems there is no easy solution to prevent their daytime wanderings.

Roys have advised that they carry out a trolley collection tour of the village three times a week, with three key areas covered (firstly central and easy to get to areas and then the rest of the village). However, sometimes the ‘trolley team’ isn’t able to get out and about as often as it should due to staff shortages (holidays/illness etc) and there are concerns that any trolleys not spotted by Roys’ staff might be played with by children, and end up in the middle of the road or thrown into the river.

So, while Roys and Hoveton Parish Council sympathise with the concerns raised about these abandoned trolleys, and Roys is doing what it can to try to ensure all abandoned trolleys are found and collected in a timely manner, it is ultimately the responsibility of the individual who has borrowed a trolley to ensure it is returned to the store and not left for someone else to pick up. If you borrow Roys’ trolleys to transport shopping home, please be aware of this, and please help to keep our village looking tidy for everyone by returning your trolleys to the store as soon as possible.

  • Community Christmas Tree

Granary Staithe is looking festive once again now that our community Christmas tree is in place. Hoveton Parish Council would like to offer its thanks to Roys for its kind donation of this year’s magnificent tree, which we think looks every bit as impressive as the one in Trafalgar Square! And a massive thank you to the volunteers from Wroxham Bure Valley Rotary Club who erected the tree over the weekend. A project like this requires a big effort from all those involved, so a huge thank you to everyone who has helped put a little extra sparkle into Hoveton’s Christmas this year!

  • Stalham Road Speed Limit Update

Thank you to all who came along to a very well attended and lively Parish Council meeting on Monday 2nd December. One of the many matters discussed was the issue of persistent speeding on the 40mph residential section of Stalham Road. Hoveton Parish Council resolved to take action on behalf of residents and have now kicked off the process with NCC to try to have the speed limit reduced from 40mph to 30mph, backed up by the substantial evidence gathered via our SAM2 sign. It’s unlikely this matter will be resolved quickly, but we’ll keep residents informed as and when progress is made. We work for you.

  • Carol Singing at Brook Park

The Wroxham Benefice is hosting a carol singing event at Brook Park, this Friday 6th December, from 5pm to 6pm. Wroxham Praise Band and a group of carol singers will be out and about around the development, to offer some early festive cheer with some well-known carols. All are welcome, so why not come and join them?

  • Green-Fingered Volunteers Needed

We hope everyone has enjoyed seeing Hoveton’s community flowerbeds bloom this year, thanks to the hard work and dedication of a small group of volunteers. Next year, HPC will again take responsibility for arranging the planting and maintenance of public flowerbeds throughout the village, but we need your help to do so. Could you use your gardening knowledge to help plan next year’s planting? Perhaps you could join a working party in the spring to help plant the flowerbeds, or regularly tend to a particular flowerbed (at the moment, we are particularly looking for residents of Stalham Road to get involved, to help plant and maintain the flowerbed near the bus stop)? Please contact Cllr Alex Howe (ahowe@hoveton-pc.org.uk or 01603 783096) if you can help in any way. Volunteers are always welcome!
