• Heater Loan Scheme

As winter sets in, we’d like to remind local residents that Hoveton Parish Council is part of North Norfolk District Council’s heater loan scheme, and the Parish Council has a halogen heater which can be made available to anyone in the village who is experiencing a short-term problem in times of heating emergency or particularly cold weather. There is no charge for the loan, though the resident would need to be in a position to pay for the likely increase in their electricity consumption (however, the heater is the most energy efficient halogen heater on the market). The heater is electric, so it isn’t appropriate for use during a power cut, but it is light and portable. For further information, please contact Cllrs Peter or Alex Howe on 01603 783 096 or 07702 607 130.

  • Persimmon Community Engagement Events

Please see below for details of planned community engagement events with Persimmon over their development at Brook Park:

    1. Persimmon will attend HPC’s meeting on 2nd December to update the community on matters outstanding in the completion of Brook Park Phase 1. We have allocated approx 30 minutes of the meeting to hear from Persimmon regarding the status of their work and to allow time for councillors or members of the public to pose questions.

    2. In relation to Persimmon’s “Phase 2” proposal (to roughly double the size of the estate on the land towards Tunstead Road) we are currently negotiating with Persimmon on a suitable date to hold a public consultation event at Hoveton Village Hall. This event would comprise an exhibition of the Phase 2 plans and would be followed by an open meeting in the Village Hall, chaired by the Parish Council, to take questions and comments from the community. We have of course invited Persimmon to attend this meeting.

We will provide further updates as and when information is available. Please contact us in the meantime if you have any concerns, or if there are points you’d like us to raise on your behalf. We work for you.

  • Wroxham Bridge Works Update

Earlier this year, work took place on Wroxham Bridge to repair a brickwork wall which had been damaged and to carry out maintenance on a steel deck plate. One lane of the A1151 over the bridge was closed while these vital repairs were being carried out, and Hoveton Parish Council was advised at the time that a full road closure of the bridge may be necessary in the future in order for further works to be completed.

Norfolk County Council has recently advised that these further works – a larger scheme comprising of additional stabilisation/underpinning work to the retaining wall plus maintenance of the steel bridge structure – are expected to take place in early 2021 (not in early 2020, as previously expected). The work may be brought forward should any unforeseen deterioration in the steel bridge or wall be noted, but the County Council has advised that this is not anticipated, given the current condition of both elements.

  • Persimmon Homes Update

Hoveton Parish Council was recently contacted by Persimmon Homes, who told us they are preparing a planning application for Phase II of the Brook Park development. We took the opportunity to remind them that Phase I remains uncompleted and unadopted, with significant issues outstanding. They plan to attend either our December or January meeting to explain their plans. Please share your thoughts with us about this matter or come along to the meeting (we’ll confirm the date once it has been formally agreed).
