• Clerk’s Annual Leave

Hoveton’s Parish Clerk will now be on annual leave until Monday 28th October. If you need the Council’s assistance while the Clerk is away, please contact a parish councillor.

  • Barclays Bank Update

Some good news for our village. Our Parish Clerk has today spoken with a representative from Barclays Bank regarding the future of Barclays’ Hoveton branch. Despite rumours circulating to the contrary in recent weeks, Barclays have informed us that they have no plans to close their Hoveton branch. Hoveton’s bank will remain OPEN, which we’re sure you’ll agree is very good news indeed. Please continue to visit our website and Facebook page for accurate and up-to-date local news. We work for you.

  • Riverside Park Boardwalk Replacement

Your Parish Council has received notice that the Broads Authority is due to replace the boardwalk between Riverside Park and Hoveton’s viaduct moorings, with work due to begin on 28th October. The project will see the installation of a 100% recycled plastic boardwalk which will last a significant time into the future, with the new boardwalk taking the exact same route as the previous wooden one. The boardwalk will be totally closed during the full period of works, though there will be access as usual on the adjacent paths and sites up to each end of the boardwalk (signs will be provided by the Broads Authority to advise of diversions and restrictions).

  • The Role Of The Parish Clerk

To ensure Hoveton Parish Council fulfils its legal obligations and follows proper procedures, the Council employs a Parish Clerk (as it is required to do so by law) to oversee the work of the Council and to administer Council meetings. But what does the Parish Clerk’s role actually entail? You might be surprised to learn that a Clerk does far more than simply attending meetings, taking minutes, and replying to emails!

  • Hoveton Needs Your Help

Did you know that despite their heavy workloads and an ever-increasing list of responsibilities, members of your Parish Council are all volunteers, who are not paid for the extensive work they undertake on behalf of the local community? In recent years, your Parish Council has received increased demand for its assistance and services from local residents, but sadly this demand hasn’t been accompanied by many volunteers willing to lend a hand and get involved, despite the Council’s repeated requests for help.

Only seven of Hoveton Parish Council’s twelve available seats are currently filled, which essentially means that seven volunteers are carrying out the work of twelve people. With demand for the Parish Council’s services increasing, it is vital that more local residents come forward to join the Parish Council and share the work involved in making our village a better place. In particular, your Parish Council is hoping that a resident of the Brook Park development may be willing to join the Council, to take forward outstanding matters relating to this development.

The role of a parish councillor is rewarding and fulfilling. It is an enjoyable way of contributing to your community and helping to make it a better place to live and work. Have you ever thought about becoming a parish councillor? Please do give the idea some thought. Get in touch with our Parish Clerk (07572 349600 or clerk@hoveton-pc.org.uk) or with any member of Hoveton Parish Council if you would like to find out more about what’s involved, or please come along to our next meeting (Monday 7th October 2019).
