• RAF Benevolent Fund

Hoveton Parish Council was recently contacted by the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund, a leading welfare charity for those serving and those who have served in the RAF, as well as their families. The RAF Benevolent Fund provides a range of support, from financial assistance and independent living help to emotional and mental wellbeing support. In addition, they recently launched a new Community Engagement Worker scheme to tackle social isolation and loneliness amongst the RAF family across Norfolk by helping older RAF veterans get involved in their local communities.

The RAF Benevolent Fund estimates that one in three people in Norfolk knows someone who has served or is serving in the Royal Air Force and they would like the help of local people with reaching out to these individuals and making them aware of the support available. If you know any RAF veterans who may benefit from the support of the RAF Benevolent Fund, please call 0300 102 1919 or visit www.rafbf.org.

  • Broads Centre Improvements

As regular readers of this website will know, The Broads Centre (Hoveton’s ‘shopping precinct’) will soon have a whole new look, with work due to begin in the coming months on new and improved hard and soft landscaping – including new surfaces, seating, and planters. Hoveton’s Granary Staithe, which provides a key entrance to The Broads Centre, will be receiving an exciting makeover too as part of this work, including the replacement of gravel areas with a more durable resin surface and the introduction of some new street furniture, though the Staithe will retain its own unique identity and look.

Work on these improvements was scheduled to begin on 16th September, but this start date has since been delayed due to problems with the supply of materials. At the time of writing, no new date has been confirmed for this work to begin, but it is hoped the work will soon be underway and, all being well, that it will possibly be completed in time for Christmas. There may be a small amount of disruption while the work takes place, with access to Granary Staithe likely to be restricted at times, but your Parish Council is in close contact with the developer responsible for these works and will do its best to ensure local residents and business owners are kept updated.

  • Five-Year Plan For Health

Local NHS and care organisations are currently working together to develop a five-year plan for health and care in Norfolk and Waveney. The plan will set out how the ambitions of the NHS Long Term Plan and local priorities will be delivered. What would you like to see in the five-year plan for health and care? Every day we make choices that affect our own health and wellbeing and many of us spend time caring for other people too. Could you turn your experiences into ideas to help improve the health and wellbeing of people living locally? To share your ideas and to see what other people are saying, please visit: https://ingoodhealth.dialogue-app.com.
